Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actor and director, well-known for her sexy appeal and edginess as well as her humanitarian work. Her role as a supporting actress in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was one of the roles she received in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her growing up in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years. She after that, she enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. Later, she studied drama at New York University. In addition to acting in theatre productions, she played the role of a model as well as appearing in music videos.Jolie's first film-related part was in Hackers (1995) which was the filming of which she got married to her first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996; divorced 1999). In addition to the other films, Hackers did not attract a crowd. However, in 1997, Jolie garnered much attention portraying the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the television movie George Wallace, and she later won a Golden Globe Award for her performance. In the HBO film Gia, she played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction. She was awarded multiple awards which included the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she appeared in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and the following year , she was married to Billy Bob Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie played a variety of action movies. She played the role of the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopting a British accent and learned combat sports and street fighting for the main roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Jolie played Alexander's mother in Oliver stone's Alexander in 2004 and additionally, she starred alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow, a thriller about science fiction set in 1930s New York City. Both films were unsuccessful at the box office, but Jolie made a splash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She played a woman who pretended to be an assassin. While working on the film, she became acquainted with Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
